We make sure the inner surface is smooth and consistent in shape to avoid hot spots or poor fit. Belt heaters are made to order as they vary in size and performance. The area from which heaters are used is often exposed to liquids, and therefore the wires can be completed with a protective cable. Cables can be installed from the front or edge of the heater to facilitate the installation of heaters in areas where space is limited. Cables can also be installed from a terminal housing and a braided metal jacket for additional protection if required.
Belt heaters are thin and therefore ideal for effective heat transfer. Coated belt heaters consist of a tubular heating element formed according to the diameter of the part to be heated and held in place by an external clamping tape that acts as a reflector. These belt heaters are designed for a maximum operating temperature of 350°C and can be manufactured for easy installation and for large diameters in one or more parts. Tempco ceramic belt heaters have become extremely popular with OEMs as standard heaters for the drums of plastic injection molding machines, extruders and blow molding lines. A thin layer of the thermally conductive “high” MI material is used to electrically insulate the element wire from the inner diameter of the heater cover. A thicker, “lower” thermally conductive layer supports the elemental wire by directing the heat inwards to the part to be heated. The result is more efficient heat transfer, which lowers the temperatures of the element cable and increases the service life of the belt heating.
UL® component detection is available for applications up to 900°F for jacket temperature. Make sure that the voltage input to the heating tape does not exceed the permissible nominal voltage for the heating. If the heater contains screw terminals, remove the TOP nut and flat washers from the feed screw terminals.
For heaters with multiple straps, alternately tighten each belt until no additional tightening can be performed. Make sure that all surfaces of the barrel are clean and free of contaminants that can enter the heater through wiring, etc. to avoid electrical short circuits and/or heating failures. If thermocouples are part of the heater, make sure they are free of contaminants and have a good response to temperature changes to avoid overheating.

The elements are susceptible to moisture and must be stored or used in a dry environment. It is recommended to gently heat the elements after a long period of operation. This allows moisture to escape and prevent damage to the elements.
