Love that it’s housed in a reusable handblown borosilicate glass vessel which is perfect for their refill subscription option. Packaged in a recycled kraft cardboard box + FSC paper labels. Follain has two candles that are both a soy, coconut and cotton see wax blend candle scented with with essential oils. Candle No.1 is lavender, bergamot, sandalwood, and vanilla and No.2 with white tea, fresh fig leaf, basil and a touch of lavender.
Prosperity Candles are made with all-natural soy and coconut wax, 100% pure cotton and sustainably harvested wood wicks, and never any dyes or artificial enhancers. Their premium fragrances are phthalate-free, made with essential oils and skin-safe ingredients for soaps, lotions and candles. Soy candles are vegetable wax candles made from hydrogenated soy, palm and coconut oils.
This vegan, GMO-free candle is hand-poured with a blend of sustainably-sourced coconut wax and real essential oils, and you can’t beat that $8 price tag. Lavender is a super calming scent that will help create a soothing environment (and who couldn’t use that right now?). Many candles are a blend of paraffin and another wax but will call it a “beeswax” candle, for instance, so read your labels or reach out to the brand if you’re not sure. However, beeswax isn’t often used for scented candles as the natural smell doesn’t easily mix with other scents.
We also love the ethically sourced wood wick that comes from natural sappy fruit trees from the Forest Stewardship Council. Natural fragrances are created with essential oils – derived from plants and flowers – whereas synthetic fragrances are man-made, usually from petroleum-based chemicals. This means you’re once again exposed to dangerous toxins. Soy candles smell better than regular paraffin candles, but they aren’t as overpowering. They mix well and release the scent from the essential oils that are added to them. Paraffin candles are scented with chemicals and so they tend to have a harsher smell.
Bleach, paraffin, fragrance oils, and dyes are all toxic chemicals that can be harmful when released into the air. Terralite candles are hand-poured coconut wax candles blended with pure essential oils and extracts from plants that were grown without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Our unique 100% soy wax formulation burns without petro-soot smoke toxins and our soy wax holds more scent then any other candle we know of on the market today.
Before the Consumer Product Safety Commission banned the use of lead in candle wicks back in 2003, the poisonous ingredient ensured they’d stand up straight—yes, really. “You’d light it, and then you’d immediately be breathing in lead emissions, which would cause elevated levels of lead in the bloodstream,” explains Tara Foley, founder of Follain. Moreover, some candle brands still use refined paraffin—a petroleum-based wax that may release carcinogenic soot when burned—and synthetic fragrance, which can emit potentially dangerous VOCs.
Candle wicks can contain heavy metals like lead, and their artificial scents and dyes are known allergens and respiratory irritants. Even unscented paraffin wax candles have the same health concerns . Scented and aromatherapy candles made with paraffin wax and synthetic fragrance oils are of particular concern. The Canadian and American fruity scented candles Lung Association both caution against prolonged exposure to fragrances and soot for the very young, the elderly and those with respiratory diseases. Although more expensive than paraffin or soy, beeswax candles last up to three times longer. Beeswax candles that are ivory colored typically have less of a natural honey scent.
Thistle Farms does this by providing a safe place to live, meaningful employment opportunities, and a supportive community. Each day, members of the Thistle Farms community light a candle in our Nashville headquarters as a universal symbol of sanctuary and love. The Eucalyptus Mint candle is my favorite from Thistle Farms. Burning candles can introduce various toxins into your home.
